Sexual orientation is never a factor in deciding who can foster and we encourage anyone to apply. There are, as for any carers, things to consider when applying to become a foster carer.
Time Out Fostering has always worked with children, young people and adults across the LGBTQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer / questioning, + referring to other sexual identities.)
A growing number of young people are feeling able to explore their gender and identity. We work to support them and the adults in their lives.
Time Out Fostering continue to be committed to recruiting and supporting foster parents and staff from the LGBTQ+ community.
Can I foster if I’m in a same sex relationship – Absolutely! This is encouraged and considered a real positive for children.
Gender and Sexuality is entirely irrelevant when considering foster carers – we encourage and support anyone to apply. All you need to consider initial is the basic requirements for being a foster carer:
Be over 21 years of age (there is no upper age on fostering).
Have a spare bedroom.
Have a legal right to live and work in the UK.
Things to consider for LGBTQ+ foster carers:
The process is the same for all carers. Sexual orientation or gender identity is never a deciding factor in who is approved as a foster carer
