De-escalation

This training will be facilitated by Drew Boustead. Drew is a qualified Social Worker and Foster Carer with many years of experience working with Young People and families. Areas potentially being covered are:

  1. Identify challenges and difficulties presented by some looked-after children and young people.
  2. Understand the roots and causes of challenging behaviour
  3. Suggest coping mechanisms and appropriate responses from carers by using the PACE model
  4. Carry out functional analysis that helps us understand triggers, enabling us to support our young person more effectively.
  5. Consider how we devise strategies to promote positive behaviour.
  6. Apply active calming and de-escalation strategies to support a child or young person through a crisis.
  7. Understanding aggression, identifying general physiological signs of anger while identifying the common triggers.
  8. Understand how feelings drive behaviour.
  9. Recognise the levels of anger in people.
  10. Learn appropriate interventions for each level of anger, including actions to avoid being restrained or attacked.
  11. Have ways to manage your own emotions.
